Today, Congressman Brad Finstad announced the House's approval of H.R. 2931, known as the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act. The legislation passed with bipartisan support and aims to protect small businesses by addressing sanctuary city policies.
Finstad stated, "By circumventing federal law and encouraging illegal immigrants to come into our communities, failed sanctuary city policies have created a growing public safety crisis." He further explained that his legislation codifies two executive orders from President Trump designed to protect Small Business Administration (SBA) employees and entrepreneurs by relocating SBA offices out of sanctuary cities. This move is intended to ensure that communities upholding the rule of law have access to necessary resources for serving small business owners.
The Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act was introduced in April 2025 and passed through the House Committee on Small Business at the end of that month. The act mandates that SBA offices not be located in sanctuary cities; if currently situated in such a city, they must be relocated within the same state. Additionally, it requires the Administrator to publicly determine office relocations within 120 days following its passage.
The act defines a "sanctuary jurisdiction" as any political subdivision with policies prohibiting or restricting immigration enforcement.
