Austin Public School District secures first spot in student Reading test participation in 2021-22 school year

Austin Public School District ranked first in the Mower County for test participation, with 2,586 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of Austin Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year rose by 21.5% over the previous year.

Austin Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 35% in 2021-22 school year.

Seventh grade students stood out with 10% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, third grade students had the most room for improvement, with 48% not meeting the expected standards.

Austin Public School District encompasses schools within Mower County and has a main office in Austin.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
