St. Charles Public School District secures second spot in student Reading test participation in 2021-22 school year

St. Charles Public School District ranked second in the Winona County for test participation, with 518 students taking the Reading portion of the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Minnesota Department of Education.

The number of St. Charles Public School District students taking the tests in the 2021-22 school year fell by 1.3% from the previous year.

St. Charles Public School District's students achieved an average Reading proficiency rate of 53% in 2021-22 school year.

Sixth grade students stood out with 17% of them exceeding standards in Reading, which was the highest recorded proficiency at the district.

On the other hand, third grade students had the most room for improvement, with 33% not meeting the expected standards.

St. Charles Public School District encompasses schools within Winona County and has a main office in Saint Charles.

Minnesota students take the MCA annually (or the MTAS, for students with cognitive disabilities) to determine their academic readiness. Not every grade is tested each year.

Analysis from the Nation’s Report Card showed Math and Reading scores have fallen significantly in the last decade. Science scores have been steady in recent years.

Minnesota Department of Education issues could lead to data irregularities.
