City Of Lanesboro issued the following announcement on Nov. 30.
A utility scam was noted by a Lanesboro Resident. Please be aware that Lanesboro Public Utilities will not call residents and threaten immediate shut off or immediate payments. Please be aware of these types of scams. Imposters pretending to be utility company employees call or visit customers, telling them they have overdue energy bills.
The scammers make the customer panic, telling them they have a short time to pay before gas or electricity service will be disconnected. Don't be fooled, this is not Lanesboro Public Utilities.
