City of Canton issued the following announcement on Dec. 12.
That's the dollar figure the Canton City Council will be focused on during its monthly meeting this Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Based on expectant revenues, the CY2021 Final Operating Budget Proposal includes no increase to the current taxy levy. Back in September, the council approved a proposed 4% increase to the levy. Since then, additional number crunching has resulted in a clearer picture of General Fund spending. The updated figures show the City of Canton can support its existing level of government services, with some budget adjustments, without a property tax increase in 2021. Looking back over the past 10 years, a taxy levy hike has occurred every year, with council-approved increases ranging between 2% and 7.5%. All of this information is further explained in the final budget proposal, which will take centerstage at Wednesday's meeting. A vote is expected, with a December 28 certification deadline looming. As always, the public is encouraged to be involved with the process.
