City of Canton issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.
A new safety device is in place to help slow down traffic entering Canton from the south on County 21. The City of Canton received a cost-sharing grant from the Fillmore County Public Health Department for this solar-powered radar speed sign. The speed digits change from green for compliance, amber for warning, or red for danger, in reaction to a driver’s speed. This creates an immediate psychological response through color association. Research shows radar speed signs are proven to be effective traffic calming tools. The City of Canton's cost for this project was $1,000. Thank you to Fillmore County Public Health for assisting us in efforts to get people to slow down and obey the speed limit through town.
