CITY OF BYRON: First Case Of Covid-19 Coronavirus In Olmsted County

City of Byron issued the following announcement on March 12

Press conference at Olmsted County Government Center as Olmsted County Director of Public Health Graham Briggs addresses the media and discusses the first case of COVID-19 in Olmsted County.

Update 3:54 PM Press Conference Statement:

This morning we learned of our first case of Covid-19 Coronavirus in Olmsted County.

This is one of two cases confirmed by MDH today. The case in Olmsted County is in their 50’s with recent overseas travel. Patient developed symptoms and sought health care at Mayo Clinic Rochester on March 10, 2020. Samples were collected and sent to the MDH Public Health Laboratory and test results came back positive late Tuesday evening.

The patient did not require hospitalization and is recovering in isolation at home.

We are working with MDH to identify and contact all those who may have come in contact with this individual. Close contacts will be asked to quarantine themselves for 14 days from their exposure and will be monitored for fever and respiratory symptoms.
