Congressman Brad Finstad of Minnesota’s 1st district, along with House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Congressman Pete Stauber, and Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach, has called on U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith to support reopening the federal government. The group sent a letter urging the senators to vote for what they describe as a clean, nonpartisan continuing resolution (CR) to end the ongoing government shutdown.
According to the representatives, Senators Klobuchar and Smith have voted five times against advancing the CR in the Senate. In their letter, they stated: “This clean continuing resolution, which came with no policy riders, has been supported on a bipartisan basis thirteen times during the Biden Administration. It was also supported by Democrats just six months ago. It is unjust and irresponsible to hold the federal government hostage for partisan programs that are completely unrelated to government funding, including providing noncitizens with free healthcare, bailing out liberal news programs, and reversing provisions in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, all of which total $1.5 trillion in additional spending.”
Brad Finstad has represented Minnesota’s 1st district in Congress since 2022 after succeeding Jim Hagedorn. Before his time in Congress, he served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2003 to 2009. Finstad was born in New Ulm, Minnesota in 1976 and continues to reside there. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota.
