Xcel Energy will begin work to rebuild a 69 kV electric transmission line that runs from Goodview, Minnesota, across the Mississippi River into Wisconsin. The project will require temporary closures at Prairie Island Park starting October 20, 2025, and continuing through March 2026.

According to Xcel Energy, exclusive access is needed for certain areas of Prairie Island Park to allow for staging and transporting materials and equipment. These designated areas will be clearly marked and fenced off. "The public should not enter closed areas," the company stated.

From October 20, 2025, a section of the dog park within Prairie Island Park will be fenced off; however, the dog park itself will remain open during this period.

Additional impacts are expected between January 1 and February 27, 2026. During this time, portions of the boat launch at the spillway and Prairie Island Campground will be affected by the construction activities. Despite these impacts, the campground will stay open for winter camping.

Access to all affected sections of Prairie Island Park is expected to be restored by March 2026.
