Today, Congressman Brad Finstad and the Minnesota Republican congressional delegation sent a letter to Governor Tim Walz. The letter demands answers regarding alleged fraud within the Minnesota Department of Human Services’ Housing Stabilization Services (HSS) program.
The lawmakers stated: “As Minnesota is facing a projected $6 billion deficit, this continued pattern of fraud in Minnesota is completely unacceptable. We ask that you provide us with the relevant information about how this fraud transpired under your administration’s watch, steps you are taking to rectify the situation, and your plans to prevent future fraud within the HSS program.”
Minnesota’s HSS program was established in 2020 to assist seniors and disabled individuals in securing housing. It recently came under scrutiny following federal raids on multiple homes and businesses due to allegations of fraud.
Initially expected to cost taxpayers $2.6 million annually, claims for the HSS program rose significantly, reaching $104 million in 2024 and over $60 million in just seven months of 2025.
This letter represents an ongoing effort by the Minnesota Republican congressional delegation to hold Governor Walz accountable for what they describe as a "startling pattern of fraud and mismanagement" in taxpayer-funded programs.
