ROCHESTER, MINN. – The City of Rochester is celebrating its 145 public works professionals during National Public Works Week (May 21-27, 2023). These teammates focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to high quality of life and well-being of the people of City of Rochester. The dedicated efforts of these teammates are responsible for rebuilding, improving and protecting Rochester’s multi-modal transportation network, wastewater treatment and collection systems, stormwater and surface water management, public transit systems, and other structures and facilities essential for our citizens.
“Thank you to all of the teammates in the Public Works Department for their tireless work in supporting our community,” shares City Administrator Alison Zelms. “From treating the wastewater leaving our homes to removing the snow from our streets to coordinating use of the public Right-of-Way, the Public Works team plays a vital role keeping our city running."
The City Hall dome lights were lit orange on Monday (May 22) in honor of Public Works Week.
The theme for the 2023 National Public Works Week is "Connecting the World Through Public Works." Public works is the thread that connects us all, no matter where we live in the world. Every public works professional strives to improve the quality of life for the community they serve, leading to healthier, happier communities.
The "Connecting the World Through Public Works" theme highlights the way public works professionals connect us physically, through infrastructure, and inspirationally, through service to their communities, whether as first responders, or daily workers carrying out their duties with pride.
Public works connectors help keep communities strong by providing an infrastructure of services in transportation, water, wastewater, and stormwater treatment, public buildings and spaces, parks and grounds, and right-of-way management. They are what make our communities great places to live and work. Join us in celebrating the quiet work these professionals do that makes life better for all of us.
