WASHINGTON, D.C. – On April 28, Representative Brad Finstad (MN-01) issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it will issue a waiver for the sale of E15 gasoline during the summer driving months. The waiver will go into effect on May 1st, allowing terminals to continue selling E15.
“Amidst growing inflation and rising gas prices, Minnesota families depend on biofuels like E15 as a low-cost, environmentally friendly fuel option,” said Rep. Finstad. “While the Biden Administration should have issued a waiver for the summer sale of E15 weeks ago, I am glad that our biofuel producers, fuel retailers, and consumers now have some certainty going into the summer travel season. I will continue to press the administration to make E15 available year-round, lowering gas prices, and helping to end our reliance on foreign countries for our energy needs.”
The EPA’s announcement comes after Congressman Finstad and Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) led a bipartisan, bicameral group of 30 members in sending a letter to the EPA and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), urging the agencies to quickly implement their outstanding regulatory action on a request made by several Midwest state governors to lift restrictions on the year-round sale of ethanol.
