City Of Canton issued the following announcement on Jul 21.
SOMETHING POSITIVE: The fire department's new turnout gear has arrived and has already been broken in by our firefighters. This $55,000 replacement project was made possible through strong community support. The Arlin Falck Foundation and the Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation each awarded $15,000 grants for the turnout gear purchase, with an additional $4,500 coming from private donors.
That's more than 60% of the total cost. The remaining costs were covered by the Canton Fire Relief Association and the City of Canton (through the Fire Department Fund). The city council approved the project in November 2021, noting, at that time, the protective gear worn by firefighters was purchased in 2007. Our sincerest thanks to everyone who financially contributed to the turnout gear replacement project. Your support is keeping our 20 member volunteer firefighters as safe as possible during emergency responses.
