City Of Byron issued the following announcement on Mar. 09.
Are you noticing slight discoloration of your city tap water? It’s caused by iron particles and is similar to the discoloration sometimes caused when the fire hydrants are flushed by city workers during warmer weather.
The current freeze/thaw cycle is causing this effect now. City workers have also flushed some hydrants to help clear the discoloration and this may cause the smell of chlorine to be stronger. The discoloration is not harmful, but city officials advise running the cold water tap for a few minutes to clear that portion of the lines. If the discoloration persists over several days, please contact city hall at (507) 775-3400.
