City Of Canton issued the following announcement on Mar. 02.
SOMETHING POSITIVE: We're happy to report the former Canton school has new owners, who plan on giving the neglected historic building a second chance. Fillmore County auctioned off the property yesterday (March 1) as part of the tax forfeiture process. It sold for $2,000. An energetic couple, newer to the Canton area, plans on renovating the building to create housing units.
They are currently working on a similar project in Lanesboro. The City of Canton has communicated with the new owners and invited them to attend a future city council meeting to introduce themselves and discuss their restoration plans. We know this is promising news for all Canton H.S. alumni and M-C grads who attended elementary school in Canton. Here's hoping this is a sign of continued good things to come for our community!
