The Highway 218 reconstruction project in Blooming Prairie has been halted for one year until 2024, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) reported in a press release.
Budget changes are the cause of the short delay. However, the MnDOT said the delay will allow the project management team more time to find out what else the project needs in order to be complete.
"The roadway needs repair and MnDOT has been working with the City of Blooming Prairie to evaluate community needs and safety changes," the MnDOT reported in a post. "Last winter, community members provided feedback on a preliminary design that included a reconstruction of the roadway, installation of new sidewalks and an intersection modification at Hwy 218 and 1st St NW."
A display project, also known as a "demonstration project," will be introduced this spring at the intersection of Hwy 218 and 1st St NE.
Demonstration projects allow the MnDOT, project partners and community members to assess possible corrections before investing in permanent infrastructure changes.
