City of Austin issued the following announcement on April 17.
Custodio and Georgina Serrano who own Tienda Guerrero (301 NE 4th Ave.) are helping Austin residents who are facing hunger in Austin. The Serrano family will be giving a free bag of groceries to area families who have lost their job, or who are experiencing extreme financial hardship and lack of food.
Each family will receive a whole chicken, rice, beans, tomato, onion, and tortillas to make one or more meals.
The groceries will be distributed on Thursdays starting this Thursday, April 16th from 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Tienda Guerrero, 301 NE 4th Ave. (right across the parking lot from the Austin Public Library). Please bring a form of identification.
We are so fortunate to have this generous support from Tienda Guerrero and the Serrano family. We thank them and we also want to thank Miguel Garate for his generous spirit and for his help in organizing this.
Our community is filled with many heroes during this pandemic!
